Both are excellent options for WordPress hosting. WP Engine has more features and better managed hosting, while SiteGround has more flexible pricing options and more features for shared hosting.

So I’ve narrowed down my search for a new hosting platform between WPengine and Siteground. WPengine seems phenomenal. But also really expensive.

Since I’m more of a front end guy and don’t really want to have to handle anything backend and security wise they have made an amazing pitch to me. However, comparing the prices say ground seems pretty cool and seems to offer much of the same services.

My number one priority, for hosting is security. Should I throw my money at WPengine or is siteground a better option for someone like me?

You are correct in WPEngine being very expensive, however the customer service/speeds/and features are really good imo. We keep most of our partners at the SEO agency on WPEngine just to ensure safety/security/uptime.

I had siteground for 2 years, and after a while you start to notice that the speeds are questionable. I also did not like their user interface at all.

However, I really do suggest you look at the options on the sidebar of this subreddit. I can personally attest to both Knownhost.com and Nixihost.com as phenomenal providers. They have amazing customer service teams, as well as great service and security on their servers. Plus they are offering popular options like Cpanel/plesk/direct admin hosting which WPEngine/Siteground does not offer as they have custom UI for their servers instead which sometimes can be lacking.

In 2014, I was forced to search for a new hosting provider when my previous hosting service (Arvixe) was acquired by the EIG group. Unfortunately, this transition precipitated a surge in problems that quickly escalated. 🙁

After conducting thorough market research, I have narrowed down my options just like you have. I have selected WPEngine and SiteGround as my top choices. While WP Engine offered impressive features, I must admit that I was not particularly impressed with their “list of banned plugins”, as I want to have freedom to choose my plugins as I wish. The high price was a significant concern for me, especially since it was well beyond my budget at the time. Starting out in the business of hosting reselling, I needed a solution that was more affordable.

Consequently, I made the decision to give the SiteGround GrowBig package a try. Not only did I upgrade to the GoGeek package with time, but I also purchased a second GoGeek package, and I am still on them.

My team and I take security very seriously. I ensure that all the sites are always updated and well protected. To achieve this, I utilize several security measures such as Virusdie or MalCare with WAF. Additionally, I have implemented a robust backup system consisting of three different solutions. Not all of them are utilized for all the sites, but I make use of SiteGround’s daily backups, SaaS MalCare, and schedule offsite backups with the All-in-One WP Migration plugin.

We have experienced numerous hacking attempts thus far, with a few of them proving successful. However, I must acknowledge that this was our own oversight. We neglected to promptly update certain widely recognized vulnerabilities immediately following their public announcement, only realizing our mistake a couple of days later when it was already too late. Lesson learned the hard way.

Our business is thriving, and we are proud to have satisfied web design/building and websites’ maintenance clients, mainly here, in my country – Croatia. We are committed to maintaining this level of satisfaction and to continuing to exceed our clients’ expectations. SG has proven to be a reliable partner thus far, and I would be loath to embark on the search for a new “hosting home” for the numerous websites we manage. However, I always maintain a Plan B, just to be prepared. 😉

Both are great provider, if you are willing to spend money with them, then it is great choice. WPEngine is managed WP provider and they have expertise in WP. In case you don’t have much knowledge about WP, then they are great choice.

FYI, I was SG user in the past, I moved to Asphosportal since they are really expensive. I admit they have great service but very expensive. With Asphost, it is more affordable.
